Responsibilities of the Mayor
The responsibilities of the Mayor include:
A Mayor Pro Tem is appointed by a vote of the majority of Council to perform the responsibilities of the Mayor if the Mayor is absent or is unable to perform his/her responsibilities.
Responsibilities of the City Council
The responsibilities of the City Council include:
- Adopting ordinances and resolutions for the City
- Approving City contracts
- Appointing members to the City's boards, commissions, and ad hoc committees
- Approving the budget for the City
- Establishing City policies
- Representing the citizens of Sheridan
Qualifications
The Mayor and council members:
- Must be citizens of the United States
- Must be registered voters of the City
- Must have resided in their respective wards (or in the City in the case of the mayor) for at least twelve consecutive months preceding the election
- Must not be employees of the City
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or abuse of public office
