Accessory Dwelling Units

In response to several inquiries we received regarding Accessory Dwelling Units, the Planning and Zoning Department began discussions with Planning Commission and City Council in 2019.

Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADUs, are an additional, self-contained housing unit that is secondary to the main residence on a single-family lot. One of the key benefits of ADUs is their ability to blend into existing neighborhoods with minimal impact to the overall “look” and “feel” of established residential areas. Many cities have used ADUs to address housing shortages and affordability in areas with predominately single-family land uses without significantly changing the character of these neighborhoods.
